The Library is a reference library only. Most of the law books and journals are on open shelves; the other collections are closed access, and must be requested (these books are usually delivered to readers within a few minutes).
A photocopying service for post-1900 items (conditions permitting) is available. Request forms must be submitted at least an hour before the Library closes, and staff will carry out the copying as soon as possible. The present cost is 10p per A4 page.
Readers and researchers wishing to use material from the Special Collections are advised that written application must be made at least a week in advance, as there is limited space available. It is helpful if researchers can give several dates on which they could come to the Library.
Digital photography by readers is not permitted. Images may be requested, depending on the condition of the material. Application must be made to the Library staff.
