Estates Bursarship Election

The College has elected David Renton to succeed Tom Seaman as Estates Bursar from the next academic year. 

All Souls wins award from the Oxford Preservation Trust

The Oxford Preservation Trust has awarded an 'Outstanding contribution to Oxford' award to All Souls College for the 'Restoration of its public facing façade, including replacement of intricate stone chimneys'.

Roger Hood (1936-2020)
November 2020

It is with great sorrow that the College reports the death of Professor Roger Hood CBE, QC (Hon), FBA, on Tuesday 17 November, following a short illness.

Professor Hood was Director of the University’s Centre for Criminology and a Fellow of the College from 1973 until retirement in 2003, when he became an Emeritus Fellow

All Souls College and the Codrington legacy
November 2020

Christopher Codrington, a former Fellow of All Souls, died in 1710, leaving a bequest of £10,000 to the College for building a new library and stocking it with books; this new library became generally known as the Codrington Library, although that name was never formally adopted by the Statutes of the College. Codrington’s wealth derived largely from his family’s activities in the West Indies, where they owned plantations worked by enslaved people of African descent.

Professor Santanu Das wins Book Awards
March 2020

For his book India, Empire and First World War CultureWritings, Images, and Songs (CUP, 2018) -- Professor Santanu Das, Fellow of All Souls, has been awarded the Hindu Non-Fiction Prize, and the Anand Kentish Coomaraswamy Book Prize of the Association of Asian Studies.

New Year’s Honours
January 2020

Sir Keith Thomas FBA has been made a Companion of Honour in the New Year’s Honours list for services to the Study of History. Sir Keith was a Prize Fellow at All Souls in the 1950s and returned as a Distinguished Fellow (2001-15) having been President of Corpus Christi College. He is currently an Honorary Fellow of the College.

Sir Michael Howard (1922-2019)
December 2019

It is with great sorrow that the College reports the death of Professor Sir Michael Howard OM CH MC FBA on Saturday 30 November, the day after his 97th birthday, following a short illness.

Sir Michael was a Fellow of All Souls from 1968 to 1980, when he moved to the Regius Professorship of Modern History, and later became an Honorary Fellow.  In the late 1970s he was Chichele Professor of the History of War.  

The funeral will be private and a memorial service is expected in the New Year.
