Post-Doctoral Research Fellowships

Applications may now be made for six Post-Doctoral Research Fellowships, two in Life or Environmental Sciences, and one in each of the following subjects: History since 1800; History of Art or Music or Science (excluding History of Medicine); Mathematics; and Social Anthropology; tenable from October 2023. Visiting Fellowships 2023-24

Applications may now be made for Visiting Fellowships tenable for one or more terms during the academic year 2023-24.

It is with great sorrow that the College reports the death of Sir Tony Wrigley, on Friday 25 February.

Sir Noel Malcolm honoured by the Albanian Academy of Sciences

Sir Noel Malcolm, Fellow of All Souls, has been elected an Honorary Member of the Albanian Academy of Sciences. The Academy has also awarded him its inaugural prize for the most important contribution to Albanian studies by a non-Albanian scholar in the last decade.

The Warden and Fellows have today elected Jane Cooper (English Literature, New College), Damian Maher (English Literature, St John’s) and Ross Moncrieff (History, Lincoln) to Fellowships by Examination at the College.

James Adams (1943-2021)

It is with great sorrow that the College reports the death of Dr James Adams CBE, FBA, on Monday 11 October.

Jim was a Senior Research Fellow in Classics from 1998 to 2010, when he became an Emeritus Fellow of All Souls.  He was previously Professor of Latin at the University of Manchester, then at Reading.  He first came to Oxford, from Australia in 1967, as a Commonwealth Scholar at Brasenose.

Edward Mortimer (1943-2021)

It is with great sorrow that the College reports the death of Edward Mortimer CMG on Friday 18 June, following a short illness.

After a career writing on international relations for the Times and Financial Times, Edward worked with Secretary-General Kofi Annan at the United Nations from 1998 to 2006.  Edward became a Distinguished Fellow at All Souls in 2013 having been a Prize Fellow from 1965 to 1972.

All Souls College and the Codrington legacy

All Souls College is undertaking further academic initiatives and forms of memorialisation to address the Codrington legacy.

Christopher Codrington, a former Fellow of All Souls, died in 1710, leaving a bequest of £10,000 to the College for building a new library and stocking it with books. Codrington’s wealth derived largely from the West Indies, where he and his forebears owned plantations worked by enslaved people of African descent.

Estates Bursarship Election

The College has elected David Renton to succeed Tom Seaman as Estates Bursar from the next academic year.

All Souls wins award from the Oxford Preservation Trust

The Oxford Preservation Trust has awarded an 'Outstanding contribution to Oxford' award to All Souls College for the 'Restoration of its public facing façade, including replacement of intricate stone chimneys'.
