It is with great sorrow that the College reports the death of Professor Sir Michael Howard OM CH MC FBA on Saturday 30 November, the day after his 97th birthday, following a short illness.
Sir Michael was a Fellow of All Souls from 1968 to 1980, when he moved to the Regius Professorship of Modern History, and later became an Honorary Fellow. In the late 1970s he was Chichele Professor of the History of War.
The funeral will be private and a memorial service is expected in the New Year.
The Warden and Fellows have today elected Alexander Georgiou (Law, Brasenose) and Lucas Tse (History, Hertford) to Fellowships by Examination at the College.

The Neill Lecture 2019 will be delivered by Professor Catherine Barnard on Friday, February 22 in the Examination Schools at 5 pm. The title of the lecture is ‘A Red, White and Blue Brexit’. Professor Barnard, who is a Fellow of Trinity College Cambridge, has written many books and articles on EU law and EU employment law. She has been prominent in the media over the last couple of years explaining, for the benefit of lawyers and non-lawyers alike, various legal aspects of Brexit. In this respect, she is renowned for her clarity and balanced analysis. All are welcome.

It is with great sadness that the College reports the death on 26 February of Tony Honoré, Regius Professor of Civil Law from 1971 to 1988.
A Memorial Service will be held at All Souls on Saturday 8 June at 2.30pm.

John Redwood, MP for Wokingham, has been knighted in the New Year’s Honours List for political and public service. Sir John was a Prize Fellow at All Souls from 1972-79 and is currently a Distinguished Fellow of the College.
