Analysis and commentary on major economic and political trends.
In my work on Central Banks I am examining their role in the great inflation of 2022-23 including the use of Quantitative easing. I am considering what role Quantitative tightening is playing in reducing inflation and in seeking to normalise interest rates and markets. I challenge the idea that the Central Banks are independent, tracing the political influences and constitutional checks over them worldwide. I am comparing the different accounting methods and market actions they are undertaking to reduce the size of their balance sheets.
In my work on global trends I have studied the rise of challenger or populist parties, particularly in the EU, and the demise of traditional parties. I have looked at how a populist party or President performs once in office when they lose some of the ability to campaign against the establishment status quo.
I am seeking to throw light on the productivity puzzle at a time of rapid technological development.
