John Redwood has been a businessman, chairing Norcros a quoted industrial group of companies, Concentric an international engineering business, a Director of Rothschilds setting up and running their international non UK privatisation business, a Director of NM Rothschild Asset Management and Head of Investment Research. He set up an investment management business,Pan Asset, pioneering dynamic passive low cost investing and sold that to a UK quoted Investment firm,Charles Stanley, becoming their Chief Global Strategist.

He was the MP for Wokingham for 37 years, held various Ministerial and Shadow Ministerial posts for 10 years, with 6 years in Cabinet and Shadow Cabinet. He was Head of Prime Minister Thatcher's Policy Unit where he helped her develop wider ownership and private capital investment policies. Now in the House of Lords he is primarily working on proposals to raise public sector quality and productivity of services and a better Growth policy. In 2026 he is publishing a new study of populist movements and exploring further the anger of many voters on both sides of the Atlantic with the governing Establishment consensus.

He writes a daily commentary on economic and political matters on www.johnredwoodsdiary.com with headlines on X @johnredwood. He is a regular contributor on UK media and various websites and newspapers.

He has researched and published on a range of economic and political topics.He is a Distinguished fellow of All Souls, first elected to a fellowship by examination in 1972.
