Having woked in the Cabinet Office as a Civil Servant and then as Political Secretary to Edward Heath, I worked in industry (GEC Ltd) before serving as MP (Con) from 1979 to 97. I was a Minister from 1981 to 97, in the Cabinet from 1990. Since then I have worked in banking, and served as a non-executive or senior adviser on a number of Boards. I have been Chair of the Science Museum and the Rhodes Trust and Provost of Eton College and currently am a member of the Constitution Committee of the House of Lords.
